  17. As it was the last time this topic came up, a couple of months ago, it
  18. remains distasteful to me that *everybody* who argues for educational
  19. discounts (with one notable exception that I'm aware of) would benefit
  20. directly from them.  This makes the discussion dishonest and pointless,
  21. since anything said on the merits of the idea is tainted by the percep-
  22. tion that it's just a rationalization for personal greed.

  24. In other words, I don't think anybody who talks about market share or
  25. future buyers, or even the altruism of NewTek in the furtherance of
  26. educating the nation, actually believes what he's saying.  I haven't
  27. seen any evidence that would support any of these arguments, because
  28. there isn't any.  What he's really thinking is, what can I say that
  29. might persuade them to lower the cost for ME?
